Â鶹ŮÀÉ response to the review into health and social care leadership led by General Sir Gordon Messenger and Dame Linda Pollard

08 Jun 2022

Â鶹ŮÀÉ CEO Oonagh Smyth said

The independent review into health and adult social care leadership published today offers some timely recommendations on how to develop compassionate, inclusive and collaborative leadership in care and health services and make equality, diversity and inclusion everyone's business.

The report rightly acknowledges the need for a unified set of values across health and social care and we know that effective working is driven by shared agendas and mutual professional respect to provide integrated services centred around a person’s needs. All leaders and managers should have the opportunity to develop themselves, and it’s what Â鶹ŮÀÉ already support through our leadership development programmes including registered managers networks, induction standards, succession planning, leadership qualities framework, compassionate leadership programmes and the Moving Up programme that supports those from diverse backgrounds to fulfil their leadership goals.

The report shows how we can implement structural changes at all levels to support the effective delivery of person-centred care and health services, but it also underlines the need for a workforce plan in our sector to meet demand that we know will increase substantially over the coming years.
