Throughout April we’re #CelebratingSocialCare and all the great work happening across the sector. We asked you to send in your good news stories and we’ll be sharing these throughout the month. Today we hear about two fantastic celebratory events.
The festival of lights at LDC
A Diwali celebration was held at LDC Care Company, organised and hosted by their Indian colleagues.
The event was a showcase of traditional music, dancing, and delicious food, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere for both staff and the people they support.
It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the significance of Diwali, fostering greater cultural understanding and appreciation within their organisation.
The people they support were fully engaging in the festivities, dressing in colourful outfits and enjoying the moment.
The celebration not only highlighted the rich traditions of Diwali but also reinforced the importance of inclusivity and shared experiences, making a lasting positive impact on everyone who took part.
Sujan Thomas, Support Worker at LDC Care Company, said:
It is our joy, pleasure and responsibility to make happy those who are entrusted to our care. I feel proud to say that we are part of LDC where everyone is broadminded, open to all cultures, and on behalf of the Indian community, we thank the directors for this festival to share with everyone here.
Hilda’s 105th birthday rave
At the age of 105, Hilda decided she wanted a ‘rave’ to celebrate her milestone birthday with her friends and family at Holbrook Hall Care Â鶹ŮÀÉ.
Hilda’s story grabbed the attention of the media and generous offers of support for Hilda’s rave were received. Jägermeister, ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Rapper Bru-C, DJ Martin 2 Smoove and Aldi UK all collaborated to create a magical day for the birthday girl.
Residents, staff and relatives got involved in the planning of the event with a true community spirit bringing everyone together.
The day started with Hilda, her friends and the staff members being on national television, followed by a rave to DJ Martin 2 Smooves’ tunes and Bru-C performing his tracks accompanied by DJ Shapes.
Jägermeister, ITV and Aldi UK representatives all went out of their way to spend time getting to know the residents throughout the day, who were served complimentary drinks courtesy of Jägermeister and a wonderful buffet provided by Aldi UK.
The residents found lots of joy in reading articles written about the event and have gathered to watch footage of themselves on the news all over the world.
One of the most positive outcomes of the media attention is the partnerships that have arisen with schools across the country, providing a way for them to participate in intergenerational activities which are beneficial for the residents and the children involved.
Hilda said:
I never expected all this, but it's been fabulous.
