This week’s #GoodNewsFriday celebrates Future Directions, a Manchester care provider who won two awards at the recent Spirit of Manchester Awards.

The Spirit of Manchester Awards celebrate the exceptional work within Manchester’s voluntary and community sector. At the 2024 event, held on Thursday, October 3, Future Directions proudly took home two prestigious awards.

Future Directions is a community interest company (CIC) dedicated to working closely with individuals, families, commissioners, and local communities to design and deliver personalised support solutions. They focus on empowering individuals through choice and control to allow them to live fulfilling lives.

The company was delighted to take home the gold for ‘Service User Involving Organisation’ and ‘Inspiring Campaign.’ The ‘Service User Involving Organisation’ award recognised their commitment to involving the people they support in shaping services, from engagement sessions to contributing to staff training and recruitment. The ‘Inspiring Campaign’ award was won for their innovative recycling initiative, led by The Green Superheroes, which makes recycling engaging and enjoyable for people with learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, and complex care needs.

These awards are a conformation the excellent work that Future Directions are doing. The individuals they support feel genuinely heard, and their needs are met through truly person-centred care. Many have formed lasting friendships through social groups like Friends for Life and the SPICE Groups, as well as through engagement sessions.

At the heart of the organisation’s success are the five core values of Future Directions: adaptability, creativity, transparency, going the extra mile, and putting people first. These values drive the company’s practices, ensuring that both the people they support and those they employ can live happy and enriched lives.

Staff member Louise commented:

I was over the moon to win the awards. It’s helped me to build my confidence to get the awards. It felt like being part of the Future Directions family.
